Kratom is capable of getting people high when it is abused. The high is not dangerous, and only lasts about an hour, but it can negatively affect coordination and motor skills.  Learn how to use kratom without getting high.

Does Kratom Get You High?

Should you happen to use too much kratom, you will indeed feel high. Although some people deliberately seek the high, I highly advise against using kratom recreationally, as that is a slippery slope to dependency.

Any form of kratom can get you high, including:

How Much Kratom Will Get You High?

The amount of kratom necessary to get you high is going to depend on various factors such as your tolerance level and, more importantly, the serving size.

There is no such thing as a universal serving size that will get all people high.
However, I’ve noticed from the few times I’ve accidentally gotten myself high that it was usually due to using much more kratom than my typical serving size, and apparently I’m not the only one.

In other words, using more kratom than your average serving size is likely to induce a high, but unfortunately, doing so also increases the chances of experiencing negative side effects such as:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomit

Therefore, if your goal is to avoid a kratom high, make sure to never deviate too far from your average daily dose.

What My Kratom High Felt Like

Allow me to share with you what I felt during the few times I've been (unintentionally) high off kratom. My kratom high was highly unpleasant. I experienced feelings of dizziness, loss of coordination, and almost like a severe brain fog/alcohol buzz mix. You do feel relaxed, but then again, I've never enjoyed being high because I like to be in complete control of my body, which is why I don't smoke marijuana either.

I've also experienced a kratom high along with neusea and a headache. Those are the absolute worst. So incase you were wondering, yes it's possible to get high and also experience side effects at the same time.

Are Kratom Highs Dangerous?

Although kratom highs are unpleasant, they’re fortunately, not dangerous or harmful.
I’ve yet to speak with a customer or read someone's testimony online about a kratom high leading to a medical emergency.

Nevertheless, it’s never a good idea to push the limits of your kratom tolerance to simply get a high. The biggest danger when getting high off kratom is not the high itself, but attempting to drive a vehicle or operate heavy machinery, as your motor skills will be negatively affected.

Do Kratom Highs Produce Long-term Side Effects?

The high produced by kratom does not particularly produce any long term side effects that we are aware of. However, it is the use of kratom in general which is known for potentially producing unwanted side effects. Although there are is still much to be known regarding kratom's long-term effects on people's health, mostly due to the lack of research and testing, medical conditions have been confirmed and shared with the public.

According to greenhousetreatment.com kratom's long term use may lead to the following conditions:

  • Chronic insomnia.
  • Cognitive impairments (problems with visual learning and new learning).
  • Psychosis.
  • Anorexia/weight loss.
  • Darkening of the skin on the face.
  • Hair loss.
  • Urinary Changes (e.g., diuresis and increased urgency/frequency.
  • Liver toxicity.
  • Tremors.
  • Seizures.
  • Tolerance (as well as cross-tolerance to opioids).
  • Dependence.
  • Addiction.

This is why I highly advice against using kratom recreationally, as it can lead to dependency and long-term use. So, this begs the question, how often should you use kratom? To which I would answer, only when you absolutely need it.

Don't make kratom your go-to for every discomfort you experience.

How Long Does a Kratom High Last?

A kratom high will last roughly 1-2 hours. However, the total number of hours will depend on how much kratom was used and your tolerance level.

How to Make a Kratom High Go Away

Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do to make a kratom high go away, but after unintentionally getting myself high on more than one occasion, I’ve learned a thing or two about mitigating the unpleasant feeling. The best thing you can do if you want to make a kratom high go away is to get some solid food in you.

Eating food weakens all of kratom’s uses, including the high and side effects. If you’re feeling nauseous, this may be a bit difficult to do, but doing so will help you get through it faster. Also, drink plenty of water along with your food. Although the alkaloids will already be in your bloodstream, food and water still makes a significant difference. The second thing you can do is lay down. Laying down helps to ease the feeling of dizziness and lack of coordination.

Remember to stay away from kratom potentiators such as black pepper, any type of citric acid, and caffeine, as they have the potential to boost the high. I know this may sound obvious, but I have to throw it out there just in case. If you have a kratom high, definitely don’t take more kratom, as that will increase the feeling of the high, and more than likely produce unwanted side effects.

Are Potent Strains More Likely to Get You High?

Because potent strains contain higher concentration of alkaloids, they increase the chances of getting you high. The following strains are considered some of the most potent strains, regardless of their color.

  • Maeng Da
  • Bali
  • Borneo
  • Trainwreck
  • Malay

Therefore, if you’re new to kratom, I would start with more beginner-friendly strains such as:

  • Elephant
  • Sumatra
  • Hulu
  • Dragon

People who are new to kratom are much more likely to experience side effects, especially when using potent strains.

How to Avoid a Kratom High?

The best way to avoid a kratom high is to figure out what your ideal serving size is. Therefore, get yourself a cheap food scale on Amazon and get ready to begin logging your results. If you’ve never used kratom and weigh less than 150 lbs, your first serving size should be one gram, but if you weigh more than 150 lbs, start with 2 grams.

Also, don’t take kratom twice in the same day as doing so will significantly increase the chances of you experiencing a high and side effects. If the starting serving sizes did not produce the experience you were looking for, increasing it by one gram the following day.  Continue adding one gram a day until you obtain your desired experience. By adding very small amounts to your serving size, you significantly decrease the chances of getting high.
