With so many strains on the market, how do you choose the one that is best for you? Well, before you choose a specific strain, I highly suggest you decide on a color, as strains in each color group produce virtually the same effects, and only differ in potency.

If you’re looking for mood boosting and uplifting effects, check out green strains. They are most commonly used for energy boosts, mood enhancement, relaxation, and moderate pain relief. They make great daytime strains, with Green Maeng Da and Green Malay offering the most potent effects.

However, don’t forget that like all kratom, green strains must be used properly, especially if you want to avoid unwanted side effects.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The information in our articles are represented solely as the opinions of the respective authors, who do not claim to be medical professionals. We are not medical experts, just kratom enthusiasts.

What Are Green Strains?

Kratom, also known as Mitragyna Speciosa, is a plant that originates from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia. However, kratom can be found in 4 different color variations, including yellow/gold, red, white, and green, each offering a unique combination of effects, and mostly varying in potency.

For example, all green strains, with the exception of a few outliers, produce the same effects, but some green strains will be much more potent than others.

The vast majority of strains come from red strains, but due to the factors outlined below, the color of the strains can change.

  • Drying Process (AKA Curating)

  • Fermentation

  • Time of harvest

Green strains in particular, undergo a drying process indoors, where their exposure to sunlight is reduced as much as possible. Thus, resulting in a vibrant green color.

Once the leaves are dried, they are grounded into a fine powder. Different color powders can be mixed to produce different strains.

For example, Green Maeng Da is a blend of 80% green powder and 20% white powder, while other strains are strictly 100% green strains.

Green Kratom Strain Effects

Kratom leaves contain two alkaloids, specifically Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine, which bind to the same receptors in our brain as opioids. Thus, producing very similar effects.

Green strains are known for producing a wide variety of uplifting benefits and feelings of well being.

The table below shows green strains’ effects compared to other colors.

Energy Boost

Although not as energy boosting as white strains, green strains can still provide a modest mood boost that is especially beneficial for physically strenuous jobs.

The energy boost is known to last roughly 3-5 hours.

Relaxation

Green strains produce a mental and physical relaxation effect that helps combat stress and anxiety.

For me, the relaxation effect feels like a distancing of negative thoughts combined with mental clarity. Additionally, the tension in my muscles feels like it’s being melted away.

Like the energy boost, the relaxation effect can last anywhere from 3-5 hours, but it ultimately depends on the person.

Mood Boost

The mood boost is the main reason why green strains are my favorite color group. I first started using kratom as a result of intense anxiety.

Green Maeng Da, specifically, is my favorite because it produces the strongest mood boost of all strains. When I take it, I feel a surge of optimism and joy, which helps me focus and increases my productivity.

The peak of the mood boost lasts about 30 minutes, but the total duration can last a couple of hours.

Pain Relief

Although red strains are more commonly used for reducing or eradicating pain, green strains can help with moderate pain, especially those caused by headaches, aches, or soreness.

I always suggest using green strains for reducing pain relief during the day, as using it late in the evening can prevent you from falling asleep, and use red strains to help with pain in the evening or night.

Expect 3-5 hours of pain relief.

Appetite Suppression

Last but not least, green strains are extremely useful for reducing food cravings. From my experience, white and green strains are the most effective for suppressing your appetite.

Interestingly enough, the more euphoric the strain the better it tends to be at eliminating hunger. Therefore, I suggest Green Maeng Da or Green Malay for appetite suppression.

Expect 3-5 hours of no hunger.

Green Strains Side Effects

Green strains, like all kratom strains, have the potential to produce side effects. Two things to keep in mind regarding side effects include:

  1. Those who are new to kratom are much more likely to experience side effects

  2. Potent strains are much more likely to trigger side effects

Green strains can induce both long and short term side effects. Short term side effects are usually a result of taking more kratom than your body can handle, while long term side effects are caused by long term and consistent kratom use.

Short term side effects include:

  • Vomiting

  • Nausea

  • Dry Mouth

  • Constipation

I have personally experienced all short term side effects with the exception of vomiting. Fortunately, none are lethal, just highly unpleasant, and all fade away on their own within a couple of hours.

Kratom is known to dehydrate the body. Therefore, make sure to drink plenty of water when using kratom, not just green strains.

Long-term side effects are much more dire. They include:

  • Weight Loss

  • Hyperpigmentation or darkening of facial skin

  • Psychosis

  • Damage to certain organs or other parts of the body.

If you or a loved one notice any signs of long term side effects, consult your physician immediately.

Best Kratom Strains

As I’ve previously mentioned, not all green kratom stairs are created equal. Some are more potent than others.

After personally using various green strains, I have found the following three to be the most potent green strains, in order from most potent to least potent.

Green Maeng Da

Green Maeng Da is the most potent green strain on the market, and my personal favorite, as it offers the strongest mood boost of all kratom strains.

It’s a mix of 80% green and 20% white. Therefore, it’s known for producing a potent energy boost.

However, it can also be used for pain relief, appetite suppression and relaxation. Since Green Maeng Da is very energizing, I highly recommend using it during the day.

Green Malay

Green Malay kratom is also one of the most potent kratom strains on the market. From my experience, it’s only a tad bit less potent than Green Maeng Da.

However, that can change depending on the vendor, as some vendors offer a variation of Green Malay called Super Green Malay, which can be more potent than Green Maeng Da.

Green Malay offers all the same benefits as Green Maeng Da, including:

  • Pain relief

  • Energy boost

  • Mood boost

  • Relaxation

  • Appetite suppression

Green Malay and Green Maeng Da make great rotating partners, for those who wish to avoid stagnant strain, a condition where you develop very high tolerance to one specific strain.

Green Indo

Green Indo offers all the same benefits as Green Maeng Da and Green Malay, but varies much more in potency.

Unlike the last two green strains, Green Indo is a much less energizing green strain. However, it’s exceptionally effective for relaxation and pain relief.

It’s a very well rounded strain and can be easily found with most vendors.

Are Green Strains Right For You?

So, after reading this article, how do you decide if green strains are right for you? I’ll be happy to simplify this decision for you.

If your goal is to obtain the best mood boost possible to help with stress and anxiety, definitely go with a green strain. The same goes for the best possible appetite suppression.

For the strongest energy boost, use a white strain. For a moderate energy boost, stick with green strains.

For relaxation or pain relief during the day, use a green strain. For relaxation or pain relief for the evening or night, use a red strain.

There you have it! That should help you decide whether a green strain is for you.
