Let’s begin with an introduction to kratom strains before getting into the charts. And once I have covered all the strains, I will share some tips on finding the best option for you.

The leaves of Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) trees come in many varieties. Some kratom strains make you feel at ease and even euphoric, while others induce a surge in energy levels. And, of course, others generate effects that are somewhere in between.

Most kratom strains are named after the regions they grow in. For instance, Thai kratom comes from Thailand, Indo kratom originates from Indonesia, and Malay kratom grows in Malaysia. But there are a few notable exceptions, such as the Slippery Rock and Trainwreck strains.

Green vein kratom is renowned for its balanced properties. These strains are the ultimate all-rounders that bring together the best of red and white vein kratoms. Hence, this vein color can work well whether it is early in the morning or late in the evening.

Gold vein kratom is less common than red, white, and green vein kratom. There is even debate about how it is made, although some kind of fermentation seems likely.

Given its rarity, there are fewer gold vein strains on the U.S. kratom market. But these three are worth your time.

When shopping for kratom, I think about product strength, the brand, and my desired experience. Let’s look more closely at the things you need to think about. 

Firstly, you must decide on the type of kratom effects you want. There is no point in purchasing Red Borneo if you want an energizing experience. Start by referring to the general properties of each kratom vein color before narrowing down your search to a specific strain.

Bear in mind that kratom’s effects are dose-dependent. In addition to being more potent, a large dosage of a strain may produce a substantially different experience.

First-timers probably won’t want a high-strength option like Maeng Da, whereas seasoned kratom users might want to avoid mild strains. It all comes down to personal preference - specifically, what you need and can handle.

If unsure, I recommend choosing a milder kratom product. Increasing your dosage is easy, but you cannot lower it after the event! Ensure your chosen strain is of a suitable strength before you purchase, or you could be in for some unwanted side effects.

It is not uncommon for a kratom strain from one brand to have different properties from a strain of another brand. The unregulated kratom market is partly responsible for this, and it can add to the confusion when shopping for products.

This is why many kratom users like to stick with a brand they are happy with. Ultimately, what matters most is discovering a high-quality strain that provides consistent and predictable effects. If you can find that, the strain name becomes less significant.

Unsurprisingly, you are more likely to acquire such strains from reputable brands that are transparent about how they operate. Look for third-party lab-tested kratom products and brands with GMP-qualified accreditation from the American Kratom Association (AKA).

Kratom products are readily available to buy throughout much of the United States. The substance is federally legal, albeit banned in six states (Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin).

And with kratom still soaring in popularity, various vendors are choosing to stock products. Kratom-selling stores include:

• Smoke shops
• Head shops
• Convenience stores
• Gas stations

Dedicated kratom stores typically stock a diverse range of premium Mitragyna speciosa products. Convenience stores and gas stations tend to have more limited selections and are known for selling low-grade kratom at exorbitant prices.

I highly recommend buying kratom from places that genuinely care about the herb! These stores are more concerned about selling pure and potent kratom than vendors looking for a quick cash grab. 

For most people, the only choice to make is whether to buy kratom online or from a physical shop. And sometimes, this decision is made for you! For example, if you reside in a rural region, there might not even be a brick-and-mortar kratom store in your area.

But even if there is one around the corner from you, there are several benefits to picking up products online. Let’s go over a few of them!

Variety: Internet-based vendors generally stock more strains than brick-and-mortar kratom shops. If you are seeking an obscure strain listed in one of the charts (i.e., Slippery Rock), you are more likely to find it online than in person.

Price: Online kratom stores win hands down when it comes to value for money. With so many additional running costs, physical stores are simply unable to compete with the more efficient business models of online shops.
