Selling kratom online has proven a profitable business opportunity. Hardly anyone in the U.S. had heard of the herb 20 years ago, but now there are hundreds of vendors stocking it. Herbal RVA is one such company with a kratom product collection - and they are the focus of this review.

Herbal RVA is an online-only vendor of kratom products, candles, handcrafted soaps, and more. The ‘Contact Us’ page on their website suggests the company was established in 2016, is owned by Jonathan Fisher, and is based in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

But otherwise, there isn’t much to learn about Herbal RVA. The site does not have an ‘About Us’ section or a mission statement. However, they do say that all orders ship within 24 hours.

There is no denying that the Herbal RVA website looks like something from a bygone era. But style and substance are two different things. Many vendors with fantastic marketing have below-par products. It follows that the opposite could be true.

I would guess that Herbal RVA is a relatively small business compared to the industry’s big players. And I don’t want to judge too much on appearances, so let’s dig deeper into the substance.

Herbal RVA doesn’t have the biggest product selection on the market. But they have enough variety to satisfy everyone from the occasional kratom consumer to the daily user. They stock more kratom powder than anything else but have a solid range of capsules, too.

The majority of Mitragyna speciosa retailers stock a line of kratom powder strains - and this is the most fleshed-out section of the Herbal RVA store. If you want cheap kratom products that you can do plenty with and aren’t bothered about the taste, powder is the perfect pick.

But what of Herbal RVA’s kratom powder? Well, they offer several options, with green, red, white, and yellow vein strains all available. So, whether you need an energy boost, an easy-going experience, or something in the middle, you might find it with this brand.

Herbal RVA markets these products as “herbal tea,” but the photos show they are like any other finely-ground kratom powders. I appreciate that some strains come with short product descriptions. However, I would prefer to see more details on the potential effects of different kratoms.

I know that some kratom lovers prefer split kilos - and Herbal RVA is wise to this, too. You can purchase a four-way split kilo for $70, as of June 2023, made up of any four strains in their store. Here’s a peek at some of the strains for sale at Herbal RVA.

Stem and vein products are not ever-present among kratom vendors, but Herbal RVA has chosen to stock this intriguing type of kratom powder. The stems and veins have a rougher texture than kratom’s leaves and are associated with unique properties.

Kratom stem and vein powder contains fewer alkaloids, as Herbal RVA admits. However, the precise alkaloid makeup could differ. While mitragynine is the primary alkaloid in kratom, the herb has dozens of these substances, some of which may come out to play in ‘stem and vein’.

Stem and vein is often cheaper than leaf-based powder, although this is not the case here. Herbal RVA’s “Green Stem and Vein Herbal Tea” is priced the same - $9.75 for 100 grams and $69 for 1 kilogram.

More convenience typically means higher prices in the kratom industry. So, if you want the perks of kratom capsules - which include discretion, no flavor, and pre-prepared doses - you should expect to pay more. And things are no different when you shop with Herbal RVA.

Considering their extensive kratom powder range, I am surprised that this vendor only stocks three types of kratom capsules, all of which belong to the Maeng Da strain. This seems like a missed opportunity since many dislike kratom’s flavor.

I could not tell whether Herbal RVA uses gelatin or vegetarian capsules - and it is disappointing that this information wasn’t provided. However, they state that the capsules are 00-size and filled with 650mg of kratom. All three strains are sold in 100-capsule batches.

For all the advantages of standard kratom capsules, they have one nagging drawback: most users need plenty of them. Taking five to 10 capsules per serving can quickly become annoying and unpleasant. But Herbal RVA has the answer with potent Kratom Extract Capsules.

Each capsule contains 300mg of Green Indo powder and 200mg+ of 50% mitragynine extract. That makes for a seriously strong product, with Herbal RVA stating that one capsule is like taking 10 grams of powder. They also urge customers not to misuse this product.

I am pleased to see Herbal RVA’s responsible tone. Some brands don’t adequately convey the strength and risks of kratom extract products. The vendor sells these capsules in 3-packs and suggests taking one every 24 hours.

I confess to not initially thinking much of Herbal RVA, mostly due to their old-school website and peculiar product range. But there is more to this vendor than meets the eye, and I think they have pure motives in the kratom market.

Third-party product testing is vital for proving kratom quality and purity - and will be so long as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate products. Many vendors shirk this ethical responsibility. However, to the company’s credit, Herbal RVA is not one of them.

Product pages have screenshots of third-party certificates of analysis (COAs). The lab results cover purity, with checks for heavy metals, salmonella, E.coli, and more. They also look at alkaloid potency, which is crucial to confirming products are genuine.

As of June 2023, Herbal RVA does not feature as a GMP-qualified vendor on the American Kratom Association (AKA) website. But I recognize this isn’t always viable for small businesses to pursue. Regardless, having third-party lab results is more meaningful in the transparency stakes.

Herbal RVA allows customers to leave reviews, most of which are positive - not that I was expecting to see anything else. So, I sought out some independent comments to see if others were singing from the same song sheet.

There is no doubt that Herbal RVA is going down well on Reddit, especially on the r/Vendorsofkratom. Redditors on this 2023 post picked out several strains for praise and spoke highly of the vendor’s customer service.

I found more compliments for Herbal RVA and the owner in a post by u/Ok_Dot_3533. They enjoyed the Green Buntok and Premium Maeng Da and were impressed by owner Jonathan’s kratom knowledge and approach to business. Other Redditors echoed these comments.

It is unusual to see this level of support for a kratom brand. Customers love the personal touch and have found them a reliable vendor over time. Kratom consistency is often hard to come by, so this is great to hear.

Given this is a third-party tested vendor, I am surprised and satisfied by the prices that Herbal RVA charges. One kilogram of kratom powder for $69 is value for money. Their kratom capsules are relatively affordable, even though they are only sold in 100-count batches.

The value-for-money theme continues with the brand’s kratom extract capsules. A mere $10 for three capsules of that potency is better than you get from many vendors.

If you aren’t convinced, Herbal RVA’s prices are not eye-wateringly expensive - so you could consider giving them a chance. However, the shipping costs (and potential state tax) bump the costs up a little.

Herbal RVA’s website could do with sprucing up, but this company is clearly focused on more pressing issues. Posting third-party lab results for kratom products more than makes up for the dated aesthetics - ultimately, that is what I really care about.

And the swathes of positive reviews were the clinching argument for me. This is a good vendor with experience in the industry and an owner who knows what he is talking about.
