With its unique appearance and potent effects, Horn kratom is among the best Mitragyna speciosa strains money can buy. And with three veins (red, white, and green) to choose from, every kratom user can benefit from this strain.

Ready to take a deep dive into the world of Horn kratom? In this definitive guide, I will discuss the pros and cons of each Horn strain, provide shopping advice, and touch upon other important issues, such as kratom legality, side effects, and product storage.

Whether you are experienced with kratom or new to this remarkable botanical, this article contains valuable insights. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let’s start with an introduction to Horn kratom.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The information in our articles are represented solely as the opinions of the respective authors, who do not claim to be medical professionals. We are not medical experts, just kratom enthusiasts.

What is Horn Kratom?

Horn kratom is a sought-after strain of Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) that grows in Southeast Asia and primarily in Indonesia. Kratom goes by other names, including biak-biak, ketum, mambog, and thom - but all describe the same alkaloid-rich herb.

Horn kratom takes its name from the unique horn-like shape of its leaves. The jagged edges and pointy tips are distinct from the smooth, rounded leaves that most strains have. While horned kratom has a relatively rare appearance, it has broadly similar effects to other strains.

Kratom leaves consist of various active compounds, but none matter more than the indole alkaloids. Like other strains, Horn kratom contains myriad alkaloids. However, mitragynine is by far the most abundant substance found in the plant.

Kratom users enjoy Horn strains in several ways. Kratom powder and capsules are the best-selling product types in the U.S., but you can also chew leaves as they are to enjoy the herb’s effects.

Types of Horn Kratom

Horn kratom is found in three primary vein colors: red, white, and green. Kratom’s effects differ more due to vein color than strain type. To illustrate, your typical red Horn kratom experience is more reminiscent of red Maeng Da than white Horn.

Let’s examine some general effects of red, white, and green horn kratom. Bear in mind that kratom effects vary from person to person, so your experience might not perfectly match up with the properties listed here.

Red Horn

Indulge in smooth, slow, and mellow kratom effects with red Horn kratom. This impressive strain is oozing with classic red vein kratom traits. Prepare for feel-good sensations and even bursts of euphoria as the strain’s properties produce a pleasant couchlock effect.

However, kratom is known to have dose-dependent effects, and red Horn is no exception. Small servings of this kratom may provide a mild energy boost.

White Horn

White vein kratom is associated with a substantial energy boost, and this Horn strain certainly delivers that, along with enhanced productivity and elevated mood. White Horn kratom is the quintessential daytime strain when you need something to stay on your game.

In my experience, the rush from white Horn is less intense than that from Maeng Da, Thai, and other super-fast white vein strains. So, if you want a white kratom that doesn’t make you jittery, this could be the one.

Green Horn

Choose Green Horn kratom for a balanced experience with a mellow yet noticeable energy boost. Green vein kratom combines the benefits of red and white vein strains while eroding the most extreme properties of each.

Green Horn’s well-rounded nature makes it a go-to strain in any scenario. I recommend green strains like this one for new kratom users still familiarizing themselves with the botanical’s effects.

What to Look For When Buying Horn Kratom

With so many kratom suppliers, retailers, and product types, finding a premium product that meets your needs isn’t always easy. Factor in that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate kratom, and things become even trickier.

But once you know what to look for, acquiring high-quality Horn kratom is a piece of cake. Here are three things to keep in mind.

Brand Reputation

The kratom community knows its stuff. If a brand has a terrific or terrible reputation, you can bet there are valid reasons. So, how does a kratom vendor earn the respect of consumers?

Third-party lab-tested kratom brands are more reputable than their unscrutinized competitors. Committing to lab testing shows a willingness to be transparent. Confirmation that a Horn kratom product is genuine, pure, and unadulterated goes a long way in terms of reputation.

The American Kratom Association (AKA) is the leading kratom advocacy group in the United States. The organization points shoppers in the right direction with its list of GMP-qualified vendors. You can trust that these companies uphold high manufacturing standards.

Organic Kratom

There is a general rule with natural substances that organic is best - and Mitragyna speciosa is no different. Organic, non-GMO kratom has a higher alkaloid content, fewer impurities, and a better flavor than non-organic products. Although I would never pretend that kratom tastes amazing!

Furthermore, supporting brands that use organic suppliers is a net positive for the industry. Organic kratom is more farming and better for the soil than practices that use synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

Customer Service

If there is little to choose product-wise between two kratom retailers, the quality of customer service could make all the difference. Ultimately, you want to shop with a vendor that respects your custom by operating fair business policies and rewarding your loyalty. Signs of good customer service from a kratom vendor include…

Responsive team: A top vendor will answer your questions as quickly as possible.

Free shipping: Look for retailers that throw in free shipping if you spend over a certain amount.

Return policy: Even the best stores screw up sometimes. But a lengthy return policy and money-back guarantee show a commitment to putting things right if you are unsatisfied.

Loyalty points: The best vendors will reward you with loyalty points if you shop there regularly, so you can save a few bucks on future orders.

Where to Buy Horn Kratom

Stores that stock kratom products include:

  • Specialist kratom stores
  • Herbal and botanical shops
  • Health and natural food stores
  • Smoke shops and head shops
  • Gas stations
  • Convenience stores

While many users swear by Horn kratom, it’s not as popular as best-selling strains like Maeng Da. Subsequently, there is no guarantee that every kratom vendor you find will sell red, white or green Horn. But you wouldn’t want to shop at every kratom-selling store anyway.

Head shops, gas stations, and convenience stores are non-starters for me. These places are notorious for charging exorbitant prices and selling poor-grade kratom from brands you have never heard of.

While there are plenty of legit brick-and-mortar kratom vendors, especially in urban areas, I buy all my kratom online and recommend you do the same. As for my reasons:

  • It’s more affordable. Online shops can undercut physical stores thanks to cheaper running costs.
  • It’s more convenient. I can check several stores in a matter of minutes and there is never a risk of a wasted journey.
  • It’s more transparent. Legit, lab-tested brands provide all the data I want to see at the touch of a button.

Horn Kratom Side Effects and Safety Precautions

Be aware that kratom use may cause side effects, such as:

  • Agitation
  • Constipation
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting

Considering the strain speeds, red Horn kratom may be more likely to cause drowsiness and fatigue, while white Horn is perhaps more prone to setting off anxiety and agitation. But these are just educated guesses. No studies have specifically analyzed Horn kratom side effects.

Thankfully, there are several measures you can take to promote positive kratom outcomes - and they are all easy, common-sense suggestions!

Many Horn kratom products come with directions for use and recommended dosages. Be sure to follow this advice and not exceed the suggested serving size.

Using kratom with alcohol, marijuana, or other intoxicating substances can be dangerous. Do not take kratom with prescription drugs. And if you are uncertain about anything, consult a medical professional (by that, I mean your doctor, not some random Reddit user!).

Final Thoughts

With its spiky leaves and horned shape, Horn kratom is the most stylish strain on the market. But it has plenty of substance, too. All three Horn strains are true to their vein colors and appeal to novices and seasoned users.
